Getting from Vienna International Airport (Flughafen Wien-Schwechat) to Vienna City Centre
1. City Airport Train (CAT)
The City Airport Train (CAT) offers a convenient and comfortable way to travel. It provides a non-stop journey taking just 16 minutes. Note though, it's one of the most expensive options. The cost of a single ticket is about €12.
2. S-Bahn (local train)
The local train (S-Bahn, line S7) is a considerably cheaper alternative to the CAT. The journey takes about 25 minutes to Wien-Mitte station, located in the city centre. A one-way ticket costs approximately €4.20, including the cost of city transport.
3. Vienna Airport Lines Bus
The service provides a direct connection between the Vienna International Airport and the city centre. Depending on traffic, the journey takes 20 to 45 minutes. A single ticket is approximately €8.
4. Taxi
Taxis are readily available but expensive. Expect to pay between €30 and €40. The journey time is dependent on traffic but should take around 20-30 minutes.
Getting from Bratislava Airport (Letisko M. R. Štefánika) to Vienna City Centre
Though not in Austria, Bratislava Airport is just over an hour from Vienna and commonly used by travellers due to its proximity and often cheaper flights.
1. Slovak Lines Bus
The Slovak Lines bus can take you straight from Bratislava Airport to Vienna city centre in about 1 hour and 30 minutes. Tickets cost around €8 and buses run approximately every hour.
2. Train
First take bus number 61 from the airport to Bratislava's central station, then board a train to Vienna. The entire journey should take about 2 hours and costs roughly €16.
3. Taxi
A taxi would be the most comfortable but most expensive option. It can cost around €100 and take just over an hour, depending on traffic.
